Trailer Axle Placement Guide

Why the 60/40 Rule?
Positive Tongue Weight
By placing the center of the axle group at 60% of the deck length (measured from the front), you ensure the trailer naturally leans forward onto the truck hitch. This stability is critical for highway speeds.
The “Pivot Point”
If axles are placed exactly in the middle (50/50), even a small amount of weight in the rear (like a loaded fridge) can lift the tongue, causing dangerous sway. The 60/40 rule provides a safety buffer.
